Christmas in Saigon

Many might think that Christmas has no attention in Vietnam and Vietnamese people do not know about all the traditional customs, decorations etc.

You would be surprised to find out that in reality the opposite is the case. Over whole Vietnam many Christians are living with active churches of different “schools”. Christmas Masses will be celebrated in all of them.

Traditional Christmas songs in all available languages and music-styles incl. a Vietnamese “Techno”-version are played everywhere.

The best is the decoration all over town – at public places as well as in and on private houses. Some are excellent, others still need more practice in how to combine styles, colors etc.

If you are in Saigon go and have a look at the area around Benh Than Market / Saigon Centre / Nguyen Hue and stop by at the Diamond Plaza. You will be amazed how popular Christmas is here.

Locals as well as well Expats and Tourist literally queue up to take photos with Santa Claus and his reindeer sleigh or in front of giant Christmas Trees. The only detail I miss is the red nose of Rudolph 😉

Spending Christmas in Vietnam is definitely interesting, even if you came to escape Christmas in your home country.

So just enjoy and have a good time.

Merry Christmas to all!
